The Spirit of FCC

Remembering the Past…Looking To The Future!

"When they arrived, they called the church together and related all that God had done with them…"  (Acts 14:27)

God has done much in the life of FCC!  A journey of faith began more than 170 years ago in the Hoosier heartland.  Pioneers moving into the Indiana territory brought their faith with them.  They met in log cabin homes to read scripture and pray together.  Twelve of them began to worship in the newly constructed Hamilton County Courthouse.  They called themselves “Christians”.  In keeping with their belief that faith is shown by immersion, baptisms were held in the White River.

In 1834 those twelve persons moved to a small log church and made their confessions of faith in response to the preaching of a new movement of restoration and reformation.  On September 13, 1835, they made application and presented themselves for membership to create what is now FCC.

Growing too large for that log church, the Christian Chapel was built in 1855.  A large bell was installed in the belfry, pealing its welcome to the growing community of Noblesville.  In 1897, the congregation had outgrown the Chapel and an imposing stone and brick building was constructed at Ninth and Maple.  That church would serve them for 92 years.  With the construction, the name “First Christian Church” was adopted.  Beautiful stained glass windows enhanced the Gothic structure.

The church outgrew its facilities and in 1989 the current church on Herriman Boulevard was built.  Many of the stained glass windows were moved and the bell that had pealed its welcome since 1834 still welcomes all believers.

As the congregation prays each Sunday, “…Thy will be done…”, they strive to do what He would have them do in His name.

With enthusiasm, First Christian Church looks forward to the future.  Come join us!
